UK exports of sheep meat plunged by nearly 20 per cent year-on-year in May to 6200 tonnes as countries were under the COVID-19 lockdown, figures by Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) show.
According to the development board, a smaller quantity of fresh lamb carcases was shipped during the month compared to the same time last year.
On a country-by-country basis, less product was sent to Germany, France, the Netherlands and Belgium, which offset an increase in volumes sent to Ireland, AHDB said.
