The US Agency for International Development (USAID) reiterated its commitment to support Afghanistan’s farming sector in capacity building, creation of quality labs and production in accordance with international standards.

In co-ordination with the landlocked country’s Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP), USAID aims to increase the productivity and incomes of Afghan farmers.

The commitment was made during a virtual event attended by the country’s Agriculture Minister Dr. Anwarul Haq Ahady, USAID, USDA and CLDP representatives.

Agriculture accounts for over 30% of the country’s economy, although only 12% of its land is arable.
