The United Kingdom has been named an ‘exemplar’ country in tackling food waste, according to the annual progress report for the UK’s Food Waste Reduction Roadmap, published by WRAP and IGD, detailing actions across the supply chain from farm to fork.

The island nation’s Food Waste Reduction Roadmap is one of the initiatives that prompted the Champions 12.3 coalition to name the UK an “exemplar” country in its global progress report on Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 (SDG 12.3).

Latest statistics reveal around 180,000t of food has been saved from becoming waste. Over 60 businesses now publicly report food surplus and waste figures, including 54 Tesco suppliers and international growers.
