Citing the requirement for more people to consume eggs locally, Jamaica’s Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Floyd Green, is advocating for the removal of the General Consumption Tax (GCT) on the food item.
“If we’re saying it’s (eggs) such a good protein; if we’re saying we’re now looking how we can feed ourselves; then we have to reduce that cost so that working people can be able to afford (eggs),” stressed Green.
Earlier, Green praised local egg farmers for their resilience in navigating the challenges triggered as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
