The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced a new ptotocol, shaped through a collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), for developing antimicrobial treatments for preharvest agricultural water.

The aim is to generate more data that corporate firms can use in their efforts in order to register new products to treat agricultural water against several types of foodborne bacteria.

It is worth noting that recent outbreaks of foodborne illness have highlighted the need for a feasible alternative for treating agricultural water against foodborne pathogens. So, these treatments are likely to be beneficial for farmers to protect the safety of their produce.
