The prestigious 7th Dr M S Swaminathan Award will be given to Dr V Praveen Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University.
The award, which was started by the Retired ICAR Employees Association (RICAREA) and Nuziveedu Seeds Limited (NSL), identifies and honours the work of agricultural scientists and professionals for their commendable contribution in the agricultural sector of India.
The award selection committee is headed by Dr R S Paroda, Former Director General, ICAR and other people chosen by Dr Praveen Rao from amid the 13 probable candidates from the fields of agriculture, horticulture, and veterinary sciences.
The committee said that the outshining and unique offerings made by Dr Praveen Rao in the areas of agricultural research, teaching, extension, and administration secured the recognition for him. Dr Rao is the first Vice-Chancellor of Prof Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University. Working in the same post since 2016, he has delivered extraordinary contributions in the areas of micro-irrigation and water management.
Having more than 164 research papers in peer-reviewed national and international Journals, Dr Rao is presently a member of Telangana State Council of the Confederation of Indian Industry.
Various academic awards won by him are Leader with strategic vision bestowed by Agribusiness Summit and Agri Awards 2019, Best Vice-Chancellor 2018 by AIASA and IAUA, Lifetime Achievement (RythuNestham) Award (2018), Education Leadership Award (2018), Net Award, Israel (2006), to name a few.
Besides being an active member of various global professional bodies like ASA, SSSA, CSSA, ASABE, he also served as Member, Governing Board and AGM of the ICAR. Apart from this, he is onboard with many technical and policy-making think tanks related to agriculture and rural development in ICAR and Telangana State.
