To lower the level of methane emissions, the second biggest contributor to climate change, the European Commission unveiled a new EU strategy, presenting legislative as well as non-legislative actions in the energy, agriculture and waste sectors.

“Tackling methane emissions is essential to reaching our 2030 climate targets and the 2050 climate neutrality goal, as well as contributing to the Commission’s zero-pollution ambition,” the agency said in a statement.

The Commission said it would work with the EU’s global partners and with industrial units in order to achieve emission reductions along the supply chain.
