Taiwan to ration water for 1 million people as drought bites

Taiwan, from next month, announced to ration water for more than one million households in the centre of the island owing to a drought, said economy minister Wang Mei-Hua, adding this will not affect the technology hub of Hsinchu.

The federal government is hoping the “plum rain” season that starts around late spring will assist replenish reservoirs.

As the island faces a drought following months of little rainfall, Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen has also called on residents to save water.
