Iran steps up control operations to battle swarms of migratory locusts

To battle swarms of migratory locusts, Iranian authorities are engaged in a large-scale operation across several provinces. The locust invasion has compounded problems facing Iran, already hard-hit by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Saeed Moein, the head of Iran’s Plant Protection Organization (PPO), said he expects to battle the locust invasion in as many as 1.5 million acres of land by mid-summer.

Large waves of yellow-coloured desert locusts have travelled to Tehran from the Arabian Peninsula for a third year in a row.
