US-EU Trade Relations: European barriers to US food, agri products smack of protectionism, says USDA Secretary Perdue

European barriers to some U.S. food and agri exports smack of protectionism and could color already acrimonious US-EU trade relations, said Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue.

He also said Europe was abandoning high-yielding agriculture with its Farm to Fork Strategy, which aims to reduce nutrient runoff by using less fertilizer.

It is to be noted that the Trump administration has repeatedly said that agriculture must be part of US-EU trade negotiations. However, European officials want to focus on industrial products.
