In a significant move, Sri Lanka has decided to ban cattle slaughter, adding the island nation’s government will take steps to import beef.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa-led Sri Lanka government said the move would help the country’s dairy industry and thereby save money used to buy imported milk powder.
It is worth noting that Sri Lanka is a Buddhist majority country, those following the religion constitute around 70% of the country’s population. Most of them avoid beef, as they consider cows sacred.
