IRRI to hold a panel discussion on Creating Sustainable Value Chain for Transforming Food Systems

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is going to organise a multi-stakeholder panel discussion with eminent speakers from agriculture, nutrition, environment, R&D, and policy on February 4, 2020.

The aim is to bring forth a transformation of food systems by creating sustainable value chains in India, and improve the diets for consumers and incomes for farmers, whilst protecting the environment.

The seminar will discuss Issues like nutritional status across India, farming systems diversification to improve incomes and diets, Implementing POSHAN abhiyaan, biofortification of staples, agri-nutrition education & awareness, Policies and institutional infrastructure, and environmental impact of production of staple crops to name a few.

As many as 12 eminent speakers are expected to speak on various issues related to Food and Agriculture. The speakers on the panel will include Dr. Supreet Kaur, NITI Aayog; Dr. Purnima Menon, IFPRI; Mr. Basanta Kar, Global ‘Transform Nutrition Champion’ Awardee Sight & Life ‘Nutrition Leadership Awardee 2019’; Dr. Dinesh Kumar, National Institute of Nutrition Scientist, Dr. Arabinda Padhee, ICRISAT; Dr. Rasha Omar, International Fund for Agricultural Development; Mr. Pawan Aggrawal, FSSAI; Shri. P.K. Swain, Joint Secretary, DoACFW, Ministry of Agriculture; Dr. Alok Sikka, IWMI, Dr. A.K. Singh, ICAR and Dr. Mahesh Kumar, National Institute of Nutrition Scientist. The sessions will be moderated by Dr. Nafees Meah, Regional Representative IRRI South Asia.

The panel will be held from 2 to 5 pm, at Lecture Hall, NASC Complex, New Delhi, India.
