WOBURN, Mass., Aug. 27, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — In the spring of 2020, American Plant Maintenance (APM Steam) was brought into the National Grid’s Downstate New York (DNY) Project Expediter program for energy efficiency. Specializing in steam trap surveys and repair services, American Plant Maintenance was excited to jump right into this program in an effort to help reduce New York state’s carbon footprint. The APM Steam team quickly identified large commercial, industrial, municipal, and healthcare facilities that required a steam trap survey and turnkey repair work to help optimize their steam systems.

Steam traps represent the lowest hanging fruit for energy savings, and in most cases, the payback achieved through APM Steam’s services averages 4-6 months. Once a client signs off on the project, APM Steam deploys its team to the facility to perform a throughout survey of the steam system. During this process, a tremendous amount of information is gathered about the steam system, while noting whether steam traps are operating properly or have failed. Failed traps include steam traps that are blowing steam, leaking steam, or are plugged. In each scenario, APM Steam identifies the issues, calculates the energy losses, and then offers a turnkey quote to quickly implement the repairs.

Once a survey is completed by APM Steam, a copy of the report is submitted to the client and National Grid. National Grid then assesses the energy savings. National Grid then offers a dollar value incentive for APM Steam to perform the repairs. This financial incentive has made the program extremely successful through the buydown in survey and repair costs while helping achieve energy and cost savings for the customer. The key to APM Steam’s success can be tied directly to its staff and the process that has been developed to quickly perform accurate surveys, as well as implementing repairs to keep the steam system in a fully optimized state of operation.

APM Steam received notice from National Grid DNY’s energy efficiency program that for 2020, it had won the gold award for the most projects completed in the program. APM Steam was also provided the Bronze Award for high-level customer satisfaction. Ricardo Aguirre, CEO for APM Steam noted, “We are very proud of this achievement. This is really a reflection of how hard our staff works to help bring energy and cost savings to our customers. Our team is very appreciative our of customers as well as the folks that we work with at National Grid for this program.”
