Due to a sharp rise in the shipment of groundnut oil especially to China, India’s edible oil exports rose 54 per cent to about 80,760 tonne in the financial year 2019-20, according to the Solvent Extractors Association of India.
Major oils exported include groundnut oil, rice bran oil and also small quantities of sesame, sunflower as well as mustard oil.
Notably, India exports edible oils in small quantities in order to fulfil expatriate demand. Otherwise, edible oil is India’s 3rd biggest import item after crude oil and gold.
