China steps up efforts to control African swine fever, other animal diseases

To control African swine fever and other animal diseases, Chinese agriculture ministry has reportedly planned to divide the country into five regions to be tasked to ensure timely reporting of diseases, assess risk levels and put forward control policies.

The regions will also make disease-free zones and ensure that, in principle, no pigs apart from breeding pigs and piglets are moved in or out of their regions, Reuters reported.

Earlier, the world’s most populous country piloted the regional control system in six provinces in the south.
