Bangladesh needs to import 6 lakh tonnes of onion to meet domestic requirements: BTTC
According to the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission (BTTC), the country has a stock of about 5.25 lakh tonnes of locally grown onion at present and it needs 6 lakh tonnes more to meet domestic requirements.
So, the country needs to buy six lakh tonnes of onion in order to fill the gap, and it should consider alternatives to India for the import, BTTC said in its latest report.
“The commission thinks that alternative sources for onion imports should be considered as there is possibility of export restriction to curb price spike there,” said the state agency.
