Fiji’s Ministry of Agriculture launched the ‘Green Initiative’ in order to help sustain the livelihoods of locals, contributing towards realizing the sector’s full potential.
“There are numerous opportunities to raise agriculture’s contribution to the economy and in doing so, we will be able to meet the various strategic objective in terms of raising national income,” said Agriculture Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy.
The initiative has been designed to help people facing difficulties and provide them with revenue sources.
The agriculture sector remains important to Fiji’s economy for income generation as well as food security. Accounting for about 7-9% percent of the South Pacific country’s GDP, the sector supports the livelihoods of 27 percent of Fiji’s population.
