<p>The federal government is hoping the “plum rain” season that starts around late spring will assist replenish reservoirs.</p>
<p>As the island faces a drought following months of little rainfall, Taiwan&#8217;s President Tsai Ing-wen has also called on residents to save water.</p>

<p>For the uninitiated, Taiwan has been pursuing a trade deal with the United States for at least 15 years but its strict food safety regulations on meat imports have been a major barrier.</p>
