Alarmed by growing evidence that being obese increases the risk of COVID-19, several Mexican states are moving to ban the sale of junk food to children.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is a historic opportunity to establish public policies that protect the health of children,” Tabasco legislator Manuel Gordillo Bonfil said.

According to health experts, the COVID-19 outbreak, which has so far killed over 50,000 people in Mexico, has underlined the added risks of being overweight.
