According to the latest edition of the QS Subject Rankings, Wageningen University & Research, Netherlands has been ranked 1st in ‘Agriculture & Forestry’ followed by University of California (US) and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

QS World University Rankings by subject calculate performance based on four parameters:

• Academic reputation
• Employer reputation
• Research impact (citations per paper)
• Productivity of an institution’s research faculty

ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (Karnal) has grabbed the first spot among the best Indian agricultural universities, followed by Punjab Agricultural University (Ludhiana) and ICAR – Indian Agricultural Research Institute (New Delhi), a report said.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), an autonomous research body in India, has released the 2019 rankings.

High reservoir levels, favourable monsoon, and record kharif crop sowing are positive for the Indian agriculture sector, credit ratings agency CARE Ratings said.

The report said these factors would boost rural incomes that could consequently push up rural demand at the beginning of the festive quarter. Large companies are also pinning hopes on rural growth backed by higher farm incomes, and government stimulus packages.

The South Asian nation has so far witnessed favourable rains, with the south-west monsoon at a 6-year high.

Indian states and Union Territories (UTs) will soon be ranked on a multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) parameter dashboard. Also, a State Reform Action Plan (SRAP) is at an advanced stage of development, according to the NITI Aayog.

Global MPI is part of the Indian government’s decision to assess the performance of the country in 29 select global indices.

The motto of the exercise is to fulfil the need to measure India’s performance on several significant social as well as economic parameters and enable the utilisation of these indices as tools for self-improvement.
