Here’s everything about the new Strategic Framework endorsed at FAO Conference to transform agri-food systems

On the last day of the 42nd Session of FAO Conference, members of the UN food agency endorsed the new Strategic Framework that focuses primarily on SDG 1 (no poverty), SDG 2 (zero hunger) and SDG 10 (reduced inequalities) as well as supports the achievement of the broader SDG agenda.

The Strategic Framework 2022-2031 seeks to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through the transformation to more sustainable agri-food systems.

“Your support for our vision and our efforts of translating the concept into action is highly appreciated,” FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu told the Conference.

“It is a big task that we humbly accept.”The Conference also approved the Programme of Work and Budget 2022-23 and the Medium-Term Plan 2022-25.

In order to implement the Framework, the UN food agency will apply four cross-cutting “accelerators” to all its programme interventions:
• Technology
• Innovation
• Data
• Complements (such as Governance, Human capital, and institutional framework) to facilitate the management of trade-offs as per the national priorities.

According to sources, 20 Programme Priority Areas have been identified that are inter-disciplinary, where the organization has a comparative advantage and ability to act.
