Agriculture turning out to be a green shoot amid economic woes created by the pandemic, says rating agency CRISIL

The latest report by CRISIL research stated the South-West monsoon has been plentiful in many parts of India. Rainfall has been up to 80% above normal in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, while in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Punjab, it has so far been in the normal range.

Up to July 14, 2020, all-India rainfall was 11% above the long period average (LPA) while in June, it was 24% higher. This year, sowing should be 2-3% above normal, CRISIL said.

The rating agency said the last time monsoon shaped this way was in 2015 when it poured 27% above the Long Period Average in the month of June.
