UK supermarket giant Tesco commits to healthy food sales target

The United Kingdom’s largest supermarket Tesco has announced to increase the proportion of sales from healthier items to about 65% by the year 2025.

Britain’s biggest supermarket took this decision following pressure from some shareholders to determine targets.

Laying out plans to boost sales of plant-based meat alternatives by 300% by 2025, the company would report its progress against the targets annually.

“Customers are telling us they want to eat a more healthy, sustainable diet” Tesco’s chief executive Ken Murphy said. “Today we are sharing our stretching new ambitions on health, and committing to reporting our progress against them.”
