US-Mexico talks soon over over import of perishable fruits, vegetables

As part of a broader series of actions meant to support farmers, the US government is likely to hold talks with Mexico over imports of perishable fruits and vegetable.

The government might also request the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) to initiate a global safeguard investigation to review the extent to which increased imports of blueberries have led to serious injury to domestic blueberry growers, Reuters reported.

In case the commission finds injury, Washington could also impose tariffs on products in order to help domestic growers.
